Warming Apple Crumble

Apple crumble is the ultimate postpartum comfort food—warm, nourishing, and packed with ingredients to support healing and recovery. This wholesome recipe is rich in protein and good fats from nuts and seeds, while wholegrain oats provide sustained energy. The stewed fruit offers natural sweetness and fiber, while warming spices like cinnamon and ginger help increase circulation to the uterus, promoting postpartum healing. Oats and flaxseeds are fantastic for breastfeeding support. INGREDIENTS:

Filling:
- 6-8 large apples, peeled, cored & chopped
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- ½ tsp nutmeg
- ½ tsp ginger powder
- 1 tbsp brown sugar (or maple syrup for a refined sugar-free option)

Crumble Topping:
- 2 cups rolled oats
- ½ cup almond meal
- ¼ cup flax meals
- ¼ cup walnuts, chopped
- ¼ cup pumpkin seeds
- ½ cup brown sugar
- ⅓ cup butter (or coconut oil for dairy-free)
- 1 tsp cinnamon

INSTRUCTIONS:

1️⃣ Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
2️⃣ Prepare the filling: In a saucepan, Simmer apples with cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, brown sugar, and cover with water. Simmer until the apple are soft and discard most of the water.
3️⃣ Make the crumble: In a bowl, mix oats, almond meal, walnuts, flax, pumpkin seeds, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Rub in cubes of butter or coconut oil.
4️⃣ Assemble: lay the apples in a baking dish and cover with the crumble mix evenly over the apples.
5️⃣ Bake for 30-35 minutes, until the topping is golden brown.
6️⃣ Serve warm with custard, yogurt or icecream.
